Works but horribly slow!Date: 2009-01-01 Rating: 4 out of 10I found this flash drive way too slow for my uses,
plus it is so small that I had to put it on a fairly
large chain to keep track of it. PLus when you pull
it out, you have to really get your fingers and thumb
close to the hardware and it is awkward. Nice idea
but not really workable. Its speed is the biggest drawback.
BewertungenBroke within 3 daysDatum 2008-12-29 Rang: 2 von 10I got this product for Christmas. It's barely 4 days later (the 29th) and while my PC picks it up, it shows the capacity as 0 and won't read it. My Mac won't pick it up at all.
Washer and Dryer proof? This thing isn't even "sit on your desk in the silicone cover it came with" proof. Complete garbage, don't waste your time.my apologies to KingMaxDatum 2008-12-25 Rang: 2 von 10I feel like a complete idiot. I originally wrote a review saying it did not work. I was actually plugging it in upside down......... The problem was that it fits both ways, so I just assumed that the label was supposed to face up. Unfortunately, I can't change my rating for some reason.... Likely, I would rate this 5 stars.Died the third time I used itDatum 2008-12-25 Rang: 2 von 10I bought a 1GB for my friend a few years ago and was always jealous I didn't have one myself. This year someone got me the 8GB for christmas. I used it to transfer about 500MB and when I plugged it into my computer the second time it mounted, loaded for 1/2 a second, disappeared (with an error message) and won't show up again on any machine I've tried- mac or windows. Ridiculous. I am so disappointed as I was really excited to get this.
Don't ignore the negative reviews- this thing is garbage. And very unfortunate, because if it worked, it'd be the slickest flash drive around.....An excellent device, with a few shortcomingsDatum 2008-12-19 Rang: 8 von 10These days USB flash drives are the easiest way to move data back and forth, and you never know when one might come in handy, so I always carry one with me wherever I go. That said, a small form-factor helps a great deal in not having this be an inconvenience.
I've used both this KingMax Super Stick and another gumstick-style drive from Transcend which was similar. These drives achieve their small size by using a double-sized PCB construction that allows them to be made about half the height of a female USB port (~2.2mm). The encapsulated PCB on which the USB contacts are formed is glued to a thin plastic casing that provides the lanyard hole.
The PCB is encapsulated in a layered plastic that almost looks like it was surface injected, but I believe it actually uses adhesive. Whatever the case, the circuit components are sealed very tightly, making it extremely well-protected from the elements. I'm not one to tempt fate, but mine has survived several accidental dips in the kitchen sink. Standard flash drives use a single-sided process coupled with a snap-on plastic casing, which means all the components are exposed inside - never let these drives anywhere near water!
The tight sealing of this drive also insulates its components, making them more sensitive to heat issues. The designers have tuned the drive to operate without risk of overheating. So, the drive is noticeably slower than typical models. I haven't bothered to do a speed benchmark, but transferring a few hundred megs takes about a minute or two. This is acceptable to me, but I wouldn't use it for Vista Boost or anything speed-sensitive.
Although the PCB itself is constructed solidly and I could see it lasting for years, the outer plastic shell is not built as well. The adhesive has begun to wear on both my gumstick-drives so that you can see the PCB pulling away from the casing if you press on it a certain way. The worst part of the shell is that only a sliver of plastic separates the lanyard hole from the edge. I prefer attaching the drives to a small key-chain ring, and the plastic adjacent to the lanyard hole on both my drives broke within a few months from the pressure on them.
All in all, the small-size of this drive is a wonderful thing, and I will be getting more in the near future. The poor durability of the outer casing is its biggest annoyance, but with USB memory this cheap these days, it's worth it to be able to keep one unnoticed in my pocket at all times.
