Man Becomes Mountain Date: 2008-10-22 Rating: 10 out of 10
I just finished reading "Man Becomes Mountain: George Blackmon's Remarkable Life" in the September, 2008 issue. Well done to both author, Jim Ridenour and to IDAHO magazine! The article is a good mix of character-revealing anecdotes and careful documentation of historical facts. I'm so glad there's a magazine in Idaho that brings history to life, a magazine that even manages to meld history and current events. This article is just one example among many that prompts me to keep back issues as a resource for travel planning and for my own writing.
BewertungenIdaho Magazine is Great Stuff!Datum 2008-08-27 Rang: 10 von 10Back in the olden days, I loved pouring through my copy of ALASKA MAGAZINE. Back then, it was a magazine full of interesting stories about life in the Bush and the life of Alaska's characters. IDAHO MAGAZINE reminds me of Alaska Magazine of the old. I love reading about life in rural Idaho, the characters, and this history of this great state. Whether you live in Idaho, plan on visiting, or just want a fun magazine, IDAHO MAGAZINE is the ticket to a great read. A superb magazine covering the Gem StateDatum 2006-11-18 Rang: 10 von 10Most people think of potatoes or rednecks when they hear the word "Idaho". That's because they have never been here. Idaho Magazine offers a rich and diverse perspective on the state that will open many eyes. Boise being the largest city, and often patting itself on the back so much to earn the term "the state of Boise" could also learn something from this magazine.
Idaho holds the torch high when it comes to the themes of cultural diversity, pride in agriculture, and strength in community. The Idaho Magazine leaves no stone unturned as it features articles that range from historical landmarks to present day tourist attractions. Swiped out are endless bantering on politics, endless pages of advertisements, and such. Replacing it are a bevy of writers who really take the time, effort and research to give you the most informative and interesting articles they can.
The Magazine: Each issue has one article I really enjoy, and it's where they do coverage of a different town called "Spotlight city". Showing the history and pioneers of it right up to its modern day struggles, you are blessed with photographs of some of the most beautiful landscapes, as well as people, that the Pacific Northwest has to offer. The magazine also covers recreation, stretching from the South to the North to show you all of the places that offer hiking, boating, camping, skiing, mountain biking, cycling, snowboarding, auto racing, and horse racing (to name a few!). Other features are events that take place in various locales throughout the year. The back page always takes time to give us profiles of the wonderful people of Idaho who make the magazine possible.
The magazine is far more educational than trendy. In recent times I've noticed more and more people of my generation not care about the history of what came before them, or even their own genealogy. For the curious, or for anyone who finds everything from Wild West legends to Natures beautiful rivers and streams, this is one you should take a look at.
Both old and new Photographs, shorts stories, and artwork are also added bonuses to the magazine. Every Idahoan should take some time to view this magazine, for it will educate them more on the great state, and the fact there is so much more to it than potatoes.
