pretty decent beginner telescope.Date: 2007-12-12 Rating: 8 out of 10This telescope is mostly about the mirror. It has a 4.5" primary mirror which picks up a good amount of light. Where this telescope is lacking, is with the included eyepieces. The 20mm is good enough for wide-field scanning. The 10mm eyepiece however is pretty much impossible to get a razor-sharp high-power image of anything. I would definitely recommend this telescope to a beginning astronomer,(which is what I am). But if you really want to utilize the large mirror for higher magnifications you should pick up a high quality eyepiece at about 15mm or smaller.(The smaller the mm, the greater the magnification.)

BewertungenBait & Switch ScopeDatum 2007-10-25 Rang: 4 von 10While this is advertised as the Celestron Firstscope, that was not the scope that arrived. Instead I received the Astromaster 114EQ - which is a pretty good scope but not what was ordered. In particular, it is a "light bucket" that is good for deep sky objects (given the size limits) but has a shorter focal length, so it will not be as good for things like double stars.
I also noticed that since there were no options on shipping price, the result was that I paid about as much for this "b&s scope" as I would have elsewhere. IE, it went from being a pretty good deal to being an ok deal.
As for the scope itself, while the optics are good, the mount is acceptable and it looks to be made of quite good materials, there is one thing that makes it a poor buy: the spotter "scope". This is the "red dot" system and you can't spot the broad side of the barn with it, let alone the ring nebula. I am not inexperienced and when I consulted with people I consider expert in scopes, having decades of experience, they were blank as to how it could work.
Moreover, though I queried Celestron online a couple weeks ago, I have got no response - the ticket is still open - which is less than impressive.
All in all, this should be a better scope and a better experience than it has been. If I was a true novice, I'd be tearing my hair out by now and ready to ebay it for $1.98 and a can of cat food. As it is, I intend to replace the "spotless system" with an old spotter scope salvaged from a Tasco picked up at a garage sale for a can of cat food - at least it works!Pretty coolDatum 2007-05-31 Rang: 8 von 10Haven't had the time to use this a whole lot, but we were able to get some great moon detail.Good overall but could stand some improvementDatum 2007-01-09 Rang: 6 von 10The telescope has pretty good optics which provide a nice clean, crisp, clear picture. Unfortunately, the controls and movements for it could use some improvement. Too many plastic parts and metal parts with too loose a tolerances which makes adjusting, moving, or repositioning the scope a pain. Good first telescopeDatum 2006-11-28 Rang: 10 von 10My son (he is 21) recently announced that he wanted a telescope for Christmas, so I got on-line to educate myself. Didn't take too long before my head began spinning! So, to make a long story short, this is the scope I ended up buying. My husband immediately set it up and has been having a blast with it! Don't know if my son will really get it now! I definately recommend that you buy the accessory kit with it also. I really enjoyed coming home from work today and looking at all the craters on the moon.
